Koocanusa Village releases bold vision for development

March 19, 2019

(Fernie, B.C., March 19, 2019) –  The board of KV Properties has recently announced its vision for the future of Koocanusa Village (KV), laying out infrastructure and beautification projects in a long-term development plan.

Reto Barrington, President of KV Properties, says the community will begin to see activity as early as May this year. “This is a new era for Koocanusa Village and we’re eager to start bringing the vision to life,” says Barrington. “We have ambitious plans to make it a world-class recreation community. Our focus is on thoughtful design supported by the natural beauty of the area and attributes of the site.”

The vision for KV is anchored on four main features: an interior lake, marina complex, beach for swimmers and a mixed-use commercial location.

A large water feature will be the aesthetic heart of the community. The 700 m x 75 m lake will offer a water park, swimming, paddle boarding and canoeing — with skating in winter.

The long-term marina plan is to develop the capacity for +500 boat slips, complete with a double-wide access ramp. An outdoor performance stage, public washrooms, covered picnic areas, a playground, and an adjacent restaurant and bar will round out the marina complex.

Located at the northern end of the project, North Beach will be a place for owners and guests to enjoy swimming, paddling, picnicking and more – in an area off-limits to motorized water craft.

Retail spaces on street level with residential condominiums above is the vision for the KV commercial centre. Restaurants and grocery facilities will be developed in a mixed-use concept, together with parking and a community centre.

When complete, Koocanusa Village will include approximately 500 residences with supporting commercial and recreational facilities.

“Our plan sees the community fully transformed in 10 to 12 years,” says Barrington. “We can’t wait to see it take shape.”

Since KV Properties took ownership of the development at the end of 2018, progress has already been seen through many projects including utility audit, survey mapping, marina licensing, debris clean up and hydro seeding in common areas. More updates on additional important infrastructure projects for waste water treatment, tree planting, paving and geo-technical work will be announced in the near future.
